The Casual Vacancy - Tom Hollander, J.K. Rowling I could not have been more wrong about this book. What starts out as a boring and dull book about people’s everyday lives and problems, became something much much more. I actually had tears in my eyes when I finished the book.I didn’t realize what J.K. Rowling was doing. Dragging you in, making you part of these peoples lives and before you know it you feel for them, you know them and it all ends in a fantastic novel that took me completely by surprise. I thought this was going to be something that got a 1 star from me. I could not have been more wrong. The characters are real, bitchy, childish and sincere. The story is told with so much truth, not hiding behind reasons for people’s behaviors or explanations. Instead what I got was an insightful story about stuff lots of people go through. Sure we know about drugs, sex, adultery etc. But the way it was all taken on and laid out in the open like it was, ended up to be a very thought inspiring novel. There are parts in the novel that made me go “Yes yes do that!” or “Oh nonononono what are you doing?!”. It made me feel, it grabbed emotions and made me want to know what happens to these characters. Even now I want to know more!My only criticism is the cover. What is that about? I can’t wait to grab a copy with hopefully a new and improved cover!A book about nothing really but peoples lives that will stay with me for a long long time. I will read any book J.K. Rowling decides to publish in the future and I recommend this book to anyone who likes it when a book plays with your emotions.
